Favourites Vincent's aim for final berth

St Vincent's go into tomorrow's clash with summerhill as clear favourites to not only overcome their Meath counterparts, but to collect what would be the club's fifth Leinster title.

With a range of number Sam Maguire winners amongst their ranks, it makes the task all the more difficult for summerhill who have been pushed all the way in their last few games.

Diarmuid Connolly and Ger Brennan are suspended after receiving straight red cards in the Dublin SFC final replay and the Leinster Club SFC quarter-final respectively. St Vincent's may be without two of their own, and indeed Dublin's, best players but they still have plenty of experience and talent to call on in the shape of Stephen Cluxton's county deputy Michael savage in goals, as well as Eamon Fennell in midfield and former Dublin sharpshooter Tomas Quinn at corner-forward. Summerhill will be looking for big performances from Meath stars Caolan McCabe at fullback and Conor Gillespie, who will have the unenviable task in marking the man-mountain that is Fennell.

TOMORROW's clash between Portlaoise and Moorefield is a repeat of the 2010 Leinster quarter-final between the sides, which the Laois champions won.

Portlaoise struggled to overcome Longford slashers in the last round, while Moorefield hammered Wexford first-timers St Martin's in their quarter-final.

Portlaoise have been touted as slight favourites and the fact they are playing at home with a variety of Laois county talent probably justifies the tag of frontrunners.

If they are to aspire to the heights expected of them they will need big performances from Laois wing half-back and Portlaoise midfield giant Conor Boyle, as well as county hurler Cahir Healy, who holds the defence together from centre half-back. The danger man up-front for the home side is former Celtic winger and Laois corner-forward Paul Cahillane.

Moorefield will look to former county stalwart Ronan sweeney at full-forward to cause havoc to the Portlaoise defence, as well as hoping former Kildare defender Kevin O'Neill is on hand to steady the ship.
