Roslea on course to cruise into final

BOTH Fermanagh SFC semi-finals are down for decision this weekend.

Roslea and Ederney are first up on Saturday evening at Brewster Park while on Sunday evening at the same venue, Belcoo and Derrygonnelly feature in a derby clash, both games have 7pm throw-in times.

With the exit of holders Tempo at the hands of Ederney, Roslea have been installed as the competition favourites.

The Peter McGinnity-managed Shamrocks have been the most consistent side in Lakeland over the past few seasons, though they were ambushed by Derrygonnelly last summer as they chased a hat-trick of titles.

Roslea have a side laced with experienced personnel, Conor Quigley and Peter Sherry manning the defence, James Sherry and Kevin Cosgrove the midfield hub and of course the attack spearheaded by the Quigley brothers, Seamus and Sean.

Ederney put in a feisty team performance to knock Tempo off their perch and it was a deserved win on the day for them.

They delivered a terrific effort, engineered by top notch contributions from Martin McGrath and Declan McCusker, with solid support coming from Chris Snow, Paul McCusker, Aaron Dennison and John Irvine.

Ederney's last final appearance was back in 2006 when they lost to a then all-conquering Enniskillen side.

If they are to make it to this year's decider they will have to produce another super display to master a vastly experienced Roslea squad.

In the other semi-final there will be no side considered as pre-match favourites.

Derrygonnelly have a much better track record and are currently also high up the league ladder.

Belcoo on the other hand have never won the championship and are again struggling to avoid league relegation.

They have been constant underachievers but this year they might just break the mould.

After seasons of championship failure the O'Rahilly's have scored two successive wins over Lisnaskea and Erne Gaels, and there is growing belief that this could be their year.

Their effort is spearheaded by Shane McCabe and Brian Cox in the middle third with a fluent attack revolving around Ciaran Flaherty and Jonathan Feely plus veteran Stephen Maguire.

Derrygonnelly will be pinning their hopes on their centrefield dynamo Ryan Jones, their fleetfooted corner-forward Paul Ward and the subtle touch of centre half-forward Kevin Cassidy.
