Manager status...

A NUMBER of senior members of the Fermanagh squad had publicly given their backing for Peter Canavan to remain at the helm for another year, including Ryan McCluskey and Barry Owens.

However, the former All-Ireland winning captain cast doubt on his own future in the aftermath of the Cavan defeat when he refused to comment on whether or not he would be in charge of Fermanagh in 2014.

On Monday night, Canavan opted against letting his name go forward for another year and stepped down after two years in charge of Fermanagh. "After lengthy and careful consideration, I have today informed the Fermanagh County Committee chairman that I will not be putting my name forward for the post of senior manager for the 2014 year," said Canavan in a statement. "I want to thank my management team for their incredible efforts and sacrifices over the period I was in post and finally my sincere thanks are extended to the special group of players who I have worked with over the past two years."

Speculation will now turn to who will be Canavan's successor.
