CAVAN DEFEAT WATERFORD

CAVAN booked their place in the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship semi-final with a clinical 3-18 to 1-8 win over Waterford in St Brendan's Park, Birr on Saturday afternoon. Cavan hit the first three points of the game before Waterford got off the mark. When Grainne Smith, who finished with 2-7, found the back of the net Cavan led 1-8 to 0-2. And by half-time they were 1-9 to 0-3 in front. By the time Cavan struck for their second goal, again through Smith, they led 2-15 to 0-5. They didn't relinquish their grip on the game. Waterford trailed 3-18 to 0-7 - Bronagh Sheridan scored Cavan's third major - although they did manage a consolation goal and another point before the final whistle, but it was another one-sided game at the weekend. In the other quarter-final, Tipperary overcame Longford 3-11 to 3-10 after extra-time to book their place in the last four.
