Ulster is in Spillane's sights again

HE hasn't gone away you know. Pat Spillane was at his very best/worst yesterday during RTÉ's coverage of Cavan's narrow Ulster SFC win over Fermanagh in Brewster Park.

Joe Brolly and Eamonn O'Hara may have hogged the headlines in recent weeks, but, yesterday, Spillane reminded us that, when it comes to rants, no-one does it better than the Kerry man.

After a poor first-half when Fermanagh failed to scored in the opening 25 minutes, an irate Spillane bemoaned the "awful rubbish from Ulster Championship Football".

"This is exactly what we have got out of modern coaching. It is a coaching mindset that is dominated by conservatism, by safety first," Spillane said.

"It goes back to Clive Woodward from the time he guided England to the Rugby World Cup. It is paralysis by analysis.
