Leinster lay-off too long says Dub boss

DUBLIN football manager Jim Gavin reckons the GAA's Championship is too drawn out. After demolishing a weak challenge from Westmeath by 16 points, the Dubs will not see action again for a month and Gavin (right) believes that a four-week wait could be cut by one or two.

"Just the momentum that you want to generate, you prepare very diligently for the game and to keep that up for a game in four weeks is quite a long stretch," he said.

"So, that is something that should be really looked at. The whole season is too long."

Dublin face Kildare on June 30 for a place in the Leinster SFC final and Gavin said of the month gap: "It's way too long. I can't speak for the fixture list, that's a Leinster Council issue. For teams that win, four weeks is way too long."
