1892: West Brom beat Darwen 12-0 to record the biggest win in the First Division of the Football League. The result was equalled by Nottingham Forest when they beat Leicester Fosse by the same margin in 1909.

1930: England batsman Andrew Sandham became the first man to score 300 runs in an innings in Test cricket. His 325 came against the West Indies at Kingston, Jamaica.

1981: Bob Champion won the Grand National at Aintree on Aldaniti after completing a remarkable recovery from cancer.

1981: Susan Brown wrote her name in the record books as the first woman to compete in the University Boat Race. She coxed the Oxford crew to an eight-length victory over Cambridge.

2004: Tyrone failed to score in the second half against Kerry but still recorded a 1-8 to 1-7 win to top the Division 1A table.

2005: Newcastle fined midfielder Lee Bowyer six weeks' wages for his part in a brawl with team-mate Kieron Dyer in a game against Aston Villa.

2007: Manchester United lost the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Roma 2-1 in a game marred by violent clashes at the Stadio Olimpico between fans of both sides and police.

2009: Mon Mome, trained by Venetia Williams and ridden by Liam Treadwell, won the John Smith's Grand National at Aintree at 100-1.

2011: Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was charged by the Football Association for swearing into a television camera after scoring a goal in a 4-2 Premier League win at West Ham.

2012: Great Britain's Ed Clancy, Pete Kennaugh, Steven Burke and Geraint Thomas won team pursuit gold medals in a world record of three minutes 53.295 seconds at the Track Cycling World Championships in Melbourne.

2015: The Tyrone hurlers claimed the Division 3A title with a 0-18 to 1-11 win over Monaghan in Keady.

2016: Chelsea announced Italy manager Antonio Conte would become the club's first-team head coach in the summer on a three-year contract.
