REPUBLIC of Ireland veteran John O'Shea has said the team will rely on their travelling fans for inspiration during the crucial World Cup play-off match against Denmark in Copenhagen on Saturday.

Speaking to Three, sponsors of the Ireland football tem, the Sunderland footballer said the players feel a genuine connection with their fans.

“Players and the fans have always had that connection because they realise they support the team no matter what," he said.

"Against Denmark the inspiration that we need we’ll be able to get that and draw upon it from the fans."

O'Shea also described the first time he was called up to the Ireland squad and some of his more memorable moments in the shirt, including Thierry Henry's infamous handball in 2009.
