England and Scotland on Women's Euro 2017 collision course

ENGLAND and Scotland will meet in their opening Women's Euro 2017 game after they were drawn together in Group D.

Scotland will be taking part in their first major championships in Holland and have been handed a tough opener against Mark Sampson's side, who finished third in last year's Women's World Cup and were unbeaten in qualifying, in Utrecht on July 19.

Scotland are not the only side making their tournament debut in Group D, with fellow newcomers Portugal and 2013 quarter-finalists Spain completing the line-up.

Reigning champions Germany, who have won the last six editions of the tournament - a run stretching back to 1995 - face Sweden in their first match of the competition, a repeat of the 2013 semi-final, and will also play Italy and Russia in Group B.

Hosts Holland start their campaign against 2013's beaten finalists Norway, with Denmark and Belgium completing Group A.
