Dundalk captain Stephen O’Donnell refused to give up on his Champion’s League dream after losing 2-0 to Polish side Legia Warsaw at the Dublin Arena.A 56th minute penalty converted by Nemanja Nikolic and an injury-time goal from Aleksandar Prijovic has left Stephen Kenny’s men with a mountain to climb.“In the first half we played well. We gave away two sloppy goals really, especially the last one,” said O’Donnell speaking to RTE.“I think we showed enough to know that if we go over there with the same attitude we can definitely score goals against them“If we get the first goal over there next week, you never know what could happen.”Dundalk matched their Polish opponents for long periods and had a decent penalty shout turned down, but they struggled to create any meaningful chances.“It’s disappointing really. Kind of the usual story, we played well but we lost 2-0,” added O’Donnell who will miss the second leg after picking up a second booking.“It was such an enjoyable experience playing on that pitch in this stadium and in that atmosphere. I thought we looked at home, we tried to play football the right way but we are very disappointed with that goal with the last kick.“It’s an uphill battle now but as I said the first goal is huge “We lost 2-0 to Hajduk split FC two seasons ago at home and went over there and beat them 2-1. If the game had gone on another 10 minutes we would have won 3-1 so we have to have that attitude next week.”
