Ollie Horgan hopes Finn Harps can rise to occasion again

FINN Harps have frustrated northwest rivals Derry City twice already this season, but Harps manager Ollie Horgan knows doing it a third time is going to take something special from his side.

In March, on the opening day of the season, newly promoted Harps beat their arch-rivals 2-1.

That was only Harps’ second ever league win over Derry.

It was a sensational start to the campaign for Horgan’s side and they then got a 2-2 draw when the teams met at the Brandywell in May.

“Derry have had an excellent season and are up near the top of the table for a reason,” said Horgan.

“We were fortunate to get a draw at the Brandywell earlier in the season, especially with the second half performance that Derry put in.

“We have lost our last three games and would need a huge improvement to have any chance of getting something out of the game.”

Considering that Harps have beaten City just six times in 62 competitive games, this has already been a remarkable season for the Ballybofey club in terms of local bragging rights.

And what better tonic could there be after the recent dip in form to get back on track? When the sides met earlier in the season, it was a 4,300 sell-out.

Harps will be hoping for another full house.
