THE decision by the IFA not to punish Carrick Rangers for a rule breach and so confirm the relegation of Warrenpoint Town has "shocked" the South Down club.

An IFA disciplinary committee said it would "exercise its discretion" and not sanction Carrick after it found that the club had not properly implemented their manager Gary Haveron's touchline ban.

Carrick could have faced a three-point deduction and relegation from the top flight, in addition to a possible fine of at least £350, if the hearing had not gone in their favour.

A statement released by Warrenpoint Town said: "We are shocked that the IFA having found Carrick guilty, fail to implement the requisite admonishment as per established rules and deciding to let them off, despite being guilty, seems to contradict the IFA's obligation to apply objectivity.

"The board will be meeting soon to discuss further this matter and the complaint we formally raised surrounding eligibility which is in abeyance."
