Cliftonville Football Club have announced that a Celtic XI will provide the opposition for George McMullan's Testimonial Match. The Hoops will visit Solitude on Monday, April 11 to join the Reds in paying tribute to their long-serving club captain.

Confirming the fixture club chairman Gerard Lawlor explained: “We are thrilled that Celtic have agreed to travel to Belfast and help us celebrate George McMullan's unparalleled contribution to our club.

“Not only has he been a loyal servant and one who has made a valuable input to the trophy triumphs we have enjoyed in recent times, but his performances over the years have epitomised absolutely everything you would come to expect from someone who lives and breathes Cliftonville FC – and it's only fitting that one of the biggest football clubs in the world will be joining us as we pay tribute to his talent, dedication and successes.

Lawlor added: “The process of organising this match has been ongoing for quite some time now and, in recording my sincere thanks to both Peter Lawwell, Celtic's Chief Executive, and Chris McCart for their dedication to ensuring that the fixture would take place, I'm sure I speak for everyone at Cliftonville when I say we're all looking forward not only to Celtic's visit but also the opportunity to pay tribute to an outstanding captain, footballer and person come April 11."

A Celtic spokesperson said: “We are delighted to accept this invitation to play in the match against Cliftonville, we are sure it will be a great occasion and we are very much looking forward to it.”
