The latest round of Scottish Premiership fixtures provided plenty of talking points.

Here, Andy Newport assesses five things we learned this weekend.

Mixu Paatelainen has a huge job on his hands

The prospect of a backlash from Ronny Deila's Celtic after their Europa League disaster in Molde was always going to put Dundee United at risk but new boss Paatelainen had no idea it would get this bad as his side were thumped 5-0 at Parkhead.

The angry Finn blasted his players for failing to carry out their basic tasks and it looks like he will have to perform major surgery if he is to save the Tannadice men from the drop.

But with another two months to go before the transfer window opens, he will have to find a way to cajole his shambolic defence into an organised line-up before it becomes too late.

Ronny Deila cannot afford another fall-out with Kris Commons

There is no doubt Celtic forward Commons' spat with assistant boss John Collins in Norway on Thursday was an embarrassing sight for Deila.

The former Stromsgodset manager has long preferred to use compatriot Stefan Johansen in the influential slot behind his main striker, leaving Commons to be satisfied with a role out wide or even warming the bench.

Commons let rip when he was sacrificed again during their 3-1 defeat to Molde and was forced to apologise for questioning his manager's authority later.

But against United on Sunday, he showed he remains Celtic's most lethal weapon from deep with his stunning second goal.

Parkhead youngster Kieran Tierney looks a real prospect

The 18-year-old left-back showed he has the potential to make the grade at Celtic when he was handed his European debut against Fenerbahce earlier this month.

The Scotland Under-19 was back in Deila's line-up for Sunday's clash with Dundee United and, despite being hampered by cramp in the final stages, gave another glimpse of his talents.

With Emilio Izaguirre's future in Glasgow uncertain after a series of inconsistent displays, Tierney is shaping up as his long-term successor.

Aberdeen's title bid may be over already

While Celtic are struggling in Europe, they remain dominant domestically after blasting five goals past Paatelainen's hapless Terrors.

The Dons, meanwhile, could only take a point from Saturday's meeting with Motherwell and have now dropped four points behind the new league leaders.

Derek McInnes' men wasted a glut of chances against the Steelmen and with confidence at rock bottom after four straight defeats, their championship challenge appears to be slipping away.

Gary Locke's Killie should be targeting a top-six slot

Kilmarnock looked certain for a relegation scrap after failing to win any of their first six Premiership fixtures.

But Rugby Park boss Locke has infused his side with a much-needed dose of self-belief and Killie are now shooting up the table.

Unbeaten in their last three matches, they are just two points behind sixth-placed St Johnstone and if they can keep their run going, Killie could pose a risk to the likes of high-flying Ross County and Hamilton.
