Keown and Jennings attend Community Football Day
MARTIN Keown and Pat Jennings have joined over 1,500 young footballers at IFA & McDonald’s Community Football Day.
Two titans of the football world went to Mallusk playing fields in Co Antrim to participate in the event which saw 131 teams from across Northern Ireland playing a series of small-sided games.
The Arsenal and Tottenham legends were on hand to champion the event and to inspire children from across Northern Ireland to enjoy and play football.
Speaking at Mallusk, Pat Jennings, who along with Martin Keown held a coaching session, said: “It’s fantastic to see so many young players coming from all over Northern Ireland to play in the IFA & McDonald’s Community Football Day.
“Events like this play a key role in the small-sided games programme which provides the opportunity for children of all abilities to have more time on the ball and enjoy football in a safe secure environment.
“Judging by today’s high standards I am sure a number of players will be competing for the green jersey in a few years time.”
Michael Boyd, director of football development IFA, said, “Today has been a fantastic opportunity for many children from across Northern Ireland to grow, develop and nurture their football skills.
“What better inspiration than to have Pat Jennings and Martin Keown supporting our young players and today’s festival is in keeping with the Irish FA's aim of inspiring every child in Northern Ireland to be part of its football family and to dream of wearing the green jersey.”
