CARL Frampton’s WBA super-featherweight title showdown with Jamel Herring is likely to take place in England on Saturday, February 6, The Irish News understands.

The eagerly-awaited fight was originally scheduled for Windsor Park last summer but had to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Another date in January was also mooted but February (the 20th is another possible date) is looking increasingly likely.

Frampton is currently training at Jamie Moore’s gym in Manchester where he has been sparring fellow Belfast fighter and former Cyclone Promotions stablemate Anto Cacace.

It is understood that Cacace will defend his British super-featherweight title against Leon Woodstock as chief support to Frampton-Herring and working with ‘the Apache’ is ideal preparation for Frampton. Like Herring, Cacace is tall, he can switch-hit and punch and the mutually beneficial arrangement will obviously benefit Cacace – who hasn’t fought since last year - enormously too.
