ANTHONY CACACE will fight for an intercontinental super-featherweight title on the first instalment of a new series of live boxing on ITV1 in Preston on January 21.
To go along with their free-to-air coverage, the channel announced the launch of a pay-per-view platform on Tuesday and the first of those shows will be screened on February 4, with Chris Eubank jnr headlining in an IBO super-middleweight title fight against Renold Quinlan.
Cacace’s manager Pat Magee says he hopes to bring ITV to Belfast to cover a show next year: “We’re excited to be involved with ITV,” said Magee.
“I hope to attract them to Belfast for Anthony’s fight for the British title. The situation with the Martin Ward versus Maxi Hughes fight is that the winners must fight Anthony by the end of April. The contract stipulates that Anthony’s fight against the winner will go to purse bids and I hope to bid for that with the backing of ITV.”
ITV screened Carl Frampton’s USA-debut against the late Alejandro Gonzalez jnr - who was murdered in a suspected drugs cartel hit last weekend - in El Paso, Texas last year.
“The plan is that we’ll get Tommy out as well,” said Magee.
“It’s great to be involved at the start of this venture. The ITV contract is with Poxon Sports and I’m working with them at the minute and I hope that we’ll do Anthony’s title fight when it comes about in March or April - the sooner the better.
“If we win the purse bid we’ll be in control of the date and we’ll have the fight in Belfast. Tommy McCarthy might be on that bill as well.
