AS Carl Frampton made history in the early hours of the morning, hoards of boxers, managers, fans and pundits took to social media to throw their two-cents into the ring.

Fighting the unbeaten Leo Santa Cruz, Frampton, who entered the fight as the underdog, proved the bookies wrong by producing 'the best fight of [his] life," to beat ‘El Terramota’ on a majority points decision.

In what was dubbed as a career-defining fight, the former bamtamweight champion, fighting for the first time at 122lbs, edged out his opponent through cleaner punching and better shot selection.

Despite Santa Cruz throwing far more punches than Frampton - 334 more to be exact - the Jackal still out struck his opponent, landing 211 power shots to Santa Cruz's 191.

One of the first to congratulate the new WBA Super World Featherweight Champion was his opponent, Leo Santa Cruz, who also appears to be eyeing up a rematch already.

But Guillermo Rigondeaux is also looking to get the nod, and even threw in Belfast as the location to sweeten the pot. That being said, he did have trouble finding the right Twitter handle for the Jackal...

The atmosphere was electric in Brooklyn's Barclays Centre when Frampton was announced the winner by majority decision.

But then again, as they proved at Euro 2016, the boys in green have never been a quiet bunch...

Former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis also appreciated the Jackal's efforts

And, of course, the local contingent were out in force...

And the superlatives kept on coming ....

But despite the waves of messages and well wishes for Frampton and his team, there was one very noticeable absentee who has remained quiet thus far...

Lets just hope that when he does eventually break his silence, we can actually understand him this time.
