‘Money - the life and fast times of Floyd Mayweather’ by Tris Dixon.

RRP £16.99. Polaris Publishing.

FORMER Boxing News editor Tris Dixon tackles an enormous topic in Money - the life and fast times of Floyd Mayweather and the result is an engrossing read.

You wouldn’t expect anything less from Dixon, especially since he has so much material to work with here; we all know about Mayweather’s complicated relationship with his family, his jail time and, of course, his glittering 19-year, 49-0 career in the ring.

Dixon has used his experiences of the fighter and access to his family and his opponents to put together a comprehensive, comment-filled catologue of his career. And not just Mayweather’s, the career path of every opponent (after they fought him) is examined. The book doesn’t stick to what he achieved in boxing either - the darker side of his personality is also confronted - his criminal record for domestic abuse, his relentless pursuit of wealth etc.

Dixon’s opening line sums up the complexity of the man they call ‘Money’: “You’d like to think that after spending a year researching Floyd Mayweather thoroughly and having attended more than a dozen of his fights since he boxed Emanuel Augustus in Detroit, I would know who the real Floyd Mayweather is. I don’t.”

He doesn’t, who does? But after reading this book you’ll be closer to the truth than most.

Irish Boxing Review - 2015 Edition by Steve Wellings

RESPECTED and experienced boxing writer and broadcaster Steve Wellings has delivered another comprehensive review of the fight game in Ireland.

Wellings, an ever-present at ringside for Irish boxing shows, covers every punch thrown from the unforgettable night on the Titanic slipway when Carl Frampton dethroned Kiko Martinez to become world super-bantamweight champion to Sean ‘Big Sexy’ Turner winning at the Red Cow Hotel and everything in between.

His book is a collection of articles written throughout the year; and not just reports, there are build up and opinion pieces too and some interesting peaks behind-the-scenes.

The book is dedicated to the memory of sadly departed Paddy Hyland and Eamonn Magee jnr and includes world results from 2014 and '15 and a record of domestic results from all of the pro shows in Ireland.
