TEAM IRELAND will leave their training camp in Assisi, Italy for the Persian Gulf on Friday, ahead of the start of the AIBA World Men's Elite Championships.

The 18th edition of the Championships, which is also doubling up as an Olympic qualifier, begins in Doha, Qatar next Tuesday. Current European and European Games champions Michael Conlan, Joe Ward and Michael O'Reilly and Brendan Irvine, Seán McComb, Dean Walsh and Adam Nolan will represent Ireland in Doha.

Conlan has already qualified for the Olympics in the bantam class, but Irvine and Ward must finish in top two positions (reach their finals) to book tickets for Rio 2016. McComb, Walsh, Nolan and O'Reilly will qualify for Rio if they finish in top three positions in their weights.

The losing semi-finalists in the weights in which the top three qualify will box-off for places at the 31st Olympiad.
