Katie Taylor has progressed to the lightweight boxing final at the European Games in Baku after an extremely tense bout against Azerbaijan's Yana Alekseevna.

Fighting on home soil, the Azerbaijani fighter took a cagey first round, with Taylor improving to win the second. The third round again went to Alekseevna, and Taylor dominated the fourth and final round.

All three judges scored the fight 38-38, with two ultimately opting for Taylor, securing the Bray fighter’s place in the final after one of the closest matches of her career.

Tomorrow she will face France’s Estelle Mossley in the Gold-medal decider.

In more good news for Irish boxing, Portlaoise's Michael O’Reilly received a walkover in today’s semi-final against injured Russian Maxim Koptyakov, qualifying for the middleweight final tomorrow afternoon.

However, Belfast fighter Sean McComb had to be content with bronze after losing his lightweight semi-final this morning to Azerbaijan's Albert Selimov.
