THE final leg of the Run Forest Run series organised by Born2Run took place at Castlewellan Forest Park on Saturday.

There was little sign of spring in the air as wind and rain made it a tough day at the office for the 800-plus competitors taking part in 5K and 10K races

David McKee was the winner of the final race of the men's 10k, but Don Travers pushed him all the way before coming home a mere 14 seconds behind, while Timothy Johnston was a long way back in third.

Reigning NI & Ulster senior cross country champion Shalane McMurray made an impressive return to competition after a protracted injury in winning the women’s race by almost two-and-a-half minutes from Cathy McCourt.

Sam Linton led home the 5K competitors with Ann Terek, second overall, being the leading lady.
