SPERRIN Harriers announced details this week of the their annual ladies-only Stunnerz in Runnerz 5 Mile Road Race.

It is the fifth year of the event and will take place at the Meadowbank Sports Arena in Magherafelt on Saturday, June 11.

The Cookstown-based club want to celebrate women in running which arguably was once a male dominated sport.

Thanks in no small way to the hard work of Joanne Bell and her team, the event has grown consistently in popularity and is always guaranteed to be a fun day out.

Twelve months ago almost 300 ladies took part with the ubiquitous Cathy McCourt taking the top prize.

“The day gives the fair sex an opportunity to come along and enjoy the occasion which kicks off with a dance warm up before the run,” said Joanne Bell.

“After they have completed the new and improved five mile course, they can pick up a girly goody bag and glam running vest top. As well as that we have a buffet and avail of our health and nutrition stalls as well as a sports massage.”

This year’s charity is the Pretty-n-Pink Breast Cancer Charity.

Sperrin Harriers will donate £1 from every race entry fee as well as providing donation buckets and organising a charity raffle for this worthy cause.  Full details are available at www.sperrinharriers.co.uk.
