Connacht SFC final: Mayo 0-14 Galway 0-13

MAYO held off a late Galway surge at Pearse Stadium yesterday to capture their first Connacht senior football title since 2015. Mayo led by 0-8 to 0-5 at the break, having played with the wind, with Tommy Conroy, Cillian O’Connor, Diarmuid O’Connor and Paddy Durcan all finding the target for James Horan’s men.

There was a flurry of activity after the break with both sides kicking three points apiece in the space of eight minutes before Shane Walsh narrowed the gap to two for Galway. Mayo’s Eoghan McLaughlin was black-carded in injury-time as Galway pushed for a goal and, although Walsh cut the gap to a minimum via the resulting free, they couldn’t find an equaliser.

Leinster SFC semi-finals

Dublin 2-23 Laois 0-7

AS EXPECTED, Laois were no match for the All-Ireland champions at Headquarters, succumbing meekly to a masterclass from the likes of Cormac Costello. Costello was only introduced by Dessie Farrell in the 45th minute as a replacement for Dean Rock, but he quickly went on to kick seven points in this last-four rout.

Ciarán Kilkenny (1-5), Brian Fenton (0-4) and Seán Bulger (1-0) also had their scoring boots on as the Dubs eased to a 22-point victory.

Meath 5-9 Kildare 0-15

MEATH hit a remarkable five goals in the second-half of yesterday’s Leinster semi-final, leaving Kildare in a state of shock at Croke Park. The Lilywhites were six points to the good at half-time, 0-10 to 0-4, but second-half majors from Matthew Costello, Jordan Morris, star of the show Cillian O'Sullivan, Joey Wallace and Jason Scully ultimately eased the Royals to victory.

Leinster SHC final: Kilkenny 2-20 Galway 0-24

KILKENNY had substitutes Richie Hogan and TJ Reid to thank for setting-up a breath-taking finish at Croke Park on Saturday night which denied Galway their third Leinster senior hurling title. Galway had been leading by five points prior to the introduction of Brian Cody’s goal-getters and pushed in front again through a brace of Joe Canning points. However, late points from Hogan and Martin Keoghan ultimately sealed the win for the Cats.

Munster SHC final: Limerick 0-25 Waterford 0-21

LIMERICK retained their Munster hurling crown after overcoming the stiff resistance of Waterford at Semple Stadium with a late surge. Aaron Gillane again top scored for the Treaty with 0-10, while Graeme Mulcahy (0-4) and Peter Casey (0-3) contributed significantly alongside him in the full-forward line.

All-Ireland SHC Qualifying round two

Tipperary 2-18 Cork 1-17

TIPPERARY kept their All-Ireland title defence alive with a battling win over Cork at the Limerick Gaelic Grounds on Saturday. However, it took a late surge inspired by a Jake Morris goal to push them definitively clear of the Rebels. Tipp will find out their All-Ireland quarter-final opponents, either Galway or Waterford, in this morning’s draw.

Clare 1-21 Wexford 0-17

ANOTHER outstanding display from Tony Kelly steered Clare into an All-Ireland quarter-final as Wexford bowed out of the Championship at the weekend. Kelly hit a total of 1-15 at O’Moore Park, while the best efforts of Paul Morris, Paudie Foley and Shaun Murphy couldn’t keep Wexford in touch.
