The Irish News - Thursday May 20 2010: Carr loses fight to be fit for Ballybofey encounter

DOWN defender Aidan Carr will definitely miss the Mournemen’s Ulster SFC first round clash with Donegal on May 30.

The Clonduff man’s fitness has returned to the extent that he is now able to run, but he will not have recovered sufficiently to line out at Ballybofey.

Meanwhile, there are serious question marks over the availability of Brendan McArdle and Damien Rafferty, who are continuing their respective recoveries from hamstring injuries.

Midfielder Ambrose Rogers is still wearing a cast after sustaining a stress fracture in his foot, Aidan Brannigan has a broken foot and Kevin Duffin has damaged ankle ligaments.

One potential chink of brightness on the horizon is the fitness of Liam Doyle.

Down manager James McCartan hopes to have “more answers’’ on the Liatroim man’s recovery in the near future.

Meanwhile, Donegal manager John Joe Doherty reported that all his players had come through a busy weekend of club championship action in the county unscathed and all trained on Tuesday night.

Doherty last week added four of the county’s U21s to the panel which just missed out on promotion to Division One of the National League.

Michael Murphy and Leo McLoone had already been part of the senior set-up but Doherty confirmed that the quartet of Kevin Mulhern, Mark McHugh, Paddy McGrath and Dermot Molloy had done enough during the run to the All-Ireland U21 final to merit call-ups.
