In The Irish News: Thursday May 6 2010: Herron fit for Tyrone clash insists ‘Baker'

ANTRIM midfielder Brendan Herron will be fit to play against Tyrone on May 23 after recovering from the ankle injury which limited him to 11 minutes of the Division Three final against Sligo at Croke Park.

The Lamh Dhearg man came through an in-house training match on Tuesday night without any adverse reaction and was passed fit to play for his club last night.

His return to fitness is a boost to Antrim manager Liam Bradley who is resigned to being without USA-bound St Gall’s star Sean Burke for the Championship campaign.

Herron will be a key figure at centrefield for the Saffrons this year and Bradley was delighted to see him back in action.

“I read in a paper that he would miss the Tyrone match, but Brendan Herron (below) is 100 per cent,” said Bradley.

“Hopefully, he’ll come through the final round of club games unscathed.”

Midfield back-up Burke will spend the coming summer playing his football in Boston. Bradley said he understood Burke’s decision to broaden his horizons in the USA.

“He’s 21 years of age and he might never get another chance to go.

“He’s in his last year at university, he wants to go and I can’t guarantee anybody a place in the team,” said Bradley,

“A lot of young students want to go out to America and, if that’s what he wants to do, I have no problem with it.”

Morale took a battering in their recent defeat to Sligo, but the Saffrons are now focused on taking up where they left off in last year’s Championship.

“Of course the lads were disappointed (to lose to Sligo).

“Unfortunately, on the day,we were beaten by a better team –that’s football and it happens to you sometimes,” said Bradley.

“But if you start feeling sorry for yourself then you’re going to roll over.''
