BACK IN THE DAY

March 21 2010:

Allianz National Football League Division One: Galway 1-15 Tyrone 0-14

Sean Cavanagh made a welcome return from injury and made a big impact at Tuam Stadium yesterday, but that was where the good news ended for Mickey Harte’s men.

The momentum gleaned from the win over Cork was not carried forward and, while Cavanagh inspired a revival in the second-half into the wind, the nearest they got to Galway was a couple of points.

And then it was Joe Kernan’s men who had the resolve to go on and win this relegation battle and give their hopes of survival a major boost. Kernan heaped praise on experienced attacker Joe Bergin as the Tribesmen gave their hopes of staying in the top flight a big boost with their second win of the campaign.

Kernan is rotating the captaincy during the League in a bid to find leaders and Bergin responded with his best display of the year which he crowned with a brace of vital points from distance in the final quarter.
