On this Day in The Irish News – February 12 2010: DERRY boss Damian Cassidy has urged his players to embrace playing in front of a packed house against Dublin at Parnell Park tomorrow night.
Cassidy's evolving Oak Leaf side eased past Tyrone by six points in last weekend's NFL opener and the Bellaghy man will be looking for more encouraging signs against the Dubs.
‘‘When you play the Dubs you get a fantastic atmosphere and the fact that it's a Saturday night game under lights adds to the occasion,'' said Cassidy, who is still without some key personnel for the second week running.
‘‘I'm a big fan of the Saturday evening games. It's going to be a full house. You want your players playing in front of those kinds of audiences.
‘‘And I can understand why Tyrone have wanted to play at Croke Park as often as possible because the more you get playing in those type of situations, the more your players will become accustomed to it, and it makes you a better team.''
Paddy Bradley, Collie Devlin, Kevin McGuckin and Eoghan Brown remain out through injury, but the quartet should be available for Derry's next outing away to Kerry on March 7. By that time, Sean Leo and Barry McGoldrick will have returned from their travels and Ciaran Mullan will also be in contention
