The Irish News - January 16 2010: Cliftonville travel to a Lisburn Distillery side uncertain of their future today, but Reds striker Chris Scannell doesn't believe the Whites players will throw in the towel in their JJB Sports Irish Cup fifth round tie.
For Distillery, huge debts are threatening the club's very existence.
But Scannell feels their current plight can become a motivating factor for the Distillery players. “If you take the Whites lightly, you're going to end up with egg on your face,” said Scannell.
“People will say ‘they're not getting paid, they're not going to be turning out and putting in the full effort'.
“But they'll be going out there with pride and maybe trying to prove a point to people.
“And, at the end of the day, if it does come down to it where Distillery aren't able to hold on to them, those players will be putting themselves in the shop window.”
There has been little activity off the field, as well as on it, at Solitude since the new year. Former Derry defender Peter Hutton looks like being Eddie Patterson's only addition to his squad.
