1982: Hungary beat El Salvador 10-1 at Elche, Spain, to register the highest score in the final stages of the World Cup.
1996: England went top of their Euro 96 group after beating Scotland 2-0 at Wembley. Paul Gascoigne scored a spectacular clinching goal after Alan Shearer had put England ahead and David Seaman had saved a penalty from Scotland captain Gary McAllister.
2000: Tottenham agreed to sell French winger David Ginola to Premiership rivals Aston Villa for £3million.
2006: Late goals from Peter Crouch and Steven Gerrard gave England an unconvincing 2-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the World Cup.
2009: England lost by five wickets to the West Indies in their Super Eights match in the World Twenty20 at the Oval to miss out on the semi-finals.
2012: Michael Laudrup, on his 48th birthday, was named as the new manager of Swansea. He led the team to success in the League Cup to book a place in the 2013-14 Europa League.
