Tyrone Senior Football Championship

TYRONE champions Ardboe saw a 14-point lead whittled down to just two, but still managed to squeezed through 4-7 to 2-11 against Edendork in a thrilling Senior Football Championship finish at Coalisland.

A senior championship cracker saw 14-man Edendork stage a wonderful fightback after conceding four first-half goals, but they left themselves with too much to do in the end.

Gavin Wylie launched the first-half goal blitz inside the opening minutes, and further three pointers from Michael Coleman, Paddy McElroy and Frank McGuigan made it 4-3 to 0-1 at the end of the first quarter.

But Edendork fought back with feverish spirit, and pulled back two goals through Brian McGuckin and Brendan Nelis to trail by 4-4 to 2-5 at the end of a remarkable first half.

And, playing into the wind after the break, it was Edendork who made all the running, but the holders held out in breathtaking fashion.

In yesterday’s other SFC game, Eglish survived a late fightback to book a plae in the second round of the Tyrone senior championship at Coalisland last night with a 1-11 to 0-10 win over Aghaloo.

Sarsfields see red and suffer

REFEREE Aidan Higgins was a busy man in Moneyglass’s 2-9 to 1-8 win over Sarsfields, dismissing three of the Belfast’s sides players in a three-minute spell late on.

At that stage they were 2-7 to 0-8 behind already with a mountain to climb.

Ten minutes into the action Sarsfields had a Larry Scullion goal disallowed before Paul McErlean and Martin McCann beat their netminder Chris Barr to leave them trailing 2-6 to 0-2 at the break.

Walsh hit two points before and Eamon McGarrigle and Emmett Hughes also had two each to give them some hope but Michael Marron, Moneyglass top scorer with five, and Kevin Brady points put the country side well clear.

Meanwhile St Gall’s were never under any real pressure in their 2-12 to 1-8 win over St Enda’s and Ballymena All Saints defeated Portglenone 2-12 to 0-10.
