League rivals Derry and Armagh set for McKenna Cup clash

ALLIANZ Football League rivals Armagh and Derry will get a chance to lay down a marker ahead of their 2018 Division Three campaign when they clash in next month’s Bank of Ireland Dr McKenna Cup.

They were last night drawn together in Section B of the provincial pre-season competition alongside this year’s beaten Ulster SFC finalists Down and Ulster University.

Reigning champions Tyrone have been pitched into Section A alongside St Mary’s University, Cavan and Antrim, while Section C pits the students of Queen’s University, Belfast alongside Donegal, Fermanagh and Monaghan.

The semi-final pairings have also been determined with the winners of Section C taking on the winners of Section A, and the winners of Section B playing the best runners-up from the three groups.

Round one will take place on Wednesday, January 3, round two will be played on Sunday, January 7, and round three will take place on Wednesday, January 10.

The semi-finals will be down for decision on Sunday, January 14, and the final is set for the weekend of January 20-21.

Times and venues for all games will be announced after a meeting of the Ulster Central Competitions Committee next Tuesday night.

Section A: Tyrone, Cavan, Antrim, St Mary’s

Section B: Armagh Derry, Down, UU

Section C: Donegal, Fermanagh, Monaghan, Queen’s
