On This Day - Nov 15 1974: Armagh star and All-Ireland winner Justin McNulty is born

ON THIS DAY 

1969: Liverpool v West Ham was the first football game to be shown in colour on BBC's Match of the Day programme. Liverpool won 2-0.

1987: The Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide formed a round of the world motor racing championship for the first time.

1989: Nigel Martyn became the first £1million goalkeeper when he moved from Bristol Rovers to Crystal Palace. He was sold to Leeds in the summer of 1996 for £2.25million and won international honours with England. He was forced to retire through injury in June 2006 while at Everton.

2000: Under the guidance of caretaker-manager Peter Taylor, a young England side, captained for the first time by David Beckham, lost 1-0 to Italy in Turin.

2004: London Olympic chiefs submitted the city's bid to host the 2012 Games. In July 2005, the International Olympic Committee awarded the Games to London.

2005: Wigan Warriors assistant coach Denis Betts resigned, bringing to an end a 19-year association with the club.

2006: Mike Newell kept his job as Luton manager but was severely reprimanded by the club after his high-profile verbal attack on female officials and chairman Bill Tomlins. Newell was sacked four months later, with the club struggling near the foot of the Championship.

2016: Long-standing McLaren boss Ron Dennis parted company with the British Formula One team after losing a bitter boardroom dispute with his fellow shareholders.

2016: Steven Gerrard left the LA Galaxy after his 18-month deal with the Major League Soccer side came to an end.
