1863: The Football Association formed following a meeting of 11 representatives from interested clubs at the Freemasons Tavern, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.

1997: Jacques Villeneuve was crowned Formula One world champion after Ferrari rival Michael Schumacher crashed out while attempting to take the Canadian out of the European Grand Prix at Jerez.

2004: West Brom parted company with manager Gary Megson after he confirmed he would quit at the end of the season.

2007: Juande Ramos resigned as Sevilla coach. He took over at Tottenham the following day.

2008: Tottenham announced the appointment of Harry Redknapp as manager following Ramos' dismissal.

2015: England lost the second Test against Pakistan by 178 runs in Dubai.
