1937: Joe Louis knocked out defending champion James J Braddock in Chicago to become world heavyweight champion.

2004: Inverness were promoted to the Scottish Premier League when top-flight clubs voted in their favour after they appealed against a decision to reject them.

2010: France captain Patrice Evra was dropped to the bench for his side's World Cup Group A match against South Africa following a row between the squad and coach Raymond Domenech.

2012: Danish Kaneria was handed a life suspension by the England and Wales Cricket Board after being found guilty of two charges of spot-fixing. His then Essex team-mate Mervyn Westfield was given a five-year ban after pleading guilty to one offence.

2014: Nico Rosberg won the Austrian Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton forced to settle for second.
