1727: James Figg beat Ned Sutton in what is believed to be the first bare-knuckle boxing contest to have a title at stake.

1908: The first international football match between a British team and foreign opposition took place in Vienna, with England beating Austria 6-1.

2004: Argentina's Gaston Gaudio won the men's singles title at the French Open, beating compatriot Guillermo Coria in five sets.

2008: Leicester sacked head coach Marcelo Loffreda after only one season in charge at the Premiership club.
