1912: The Boston Red Sox opened Fenway Park, which is now the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball.


1981: Steve Davis won the first of his six world snooker titles by beating Doug Mountjoy 18-12 in the final at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.


2007: Peter Moores was named as the permanent successor to Duncan Fletcher as England coach.


2014: Lewis Hamilton added another flourish for the record books, winning a third consecutive Grand Prix for the first time in his career as he led from start to finish in China.


2016: Celtic manager Ronny Deila announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the season. The Norwegian guided the Hoops to two league titles and one Scottish Cup in his two seasons.
