Heartbreak for Rock GFC in All-Ireland final while Ulster hurlers share mixed fortunes in Allianz League

THERE was more All-Ireland final heartache for Tyrone's Rock GAA club as they fell to a three-point defeat this afternoon against Kerry's Glenbeigh-Glencar in the AIB All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship final.



In what was a fiery encounter which saw four players lined - three from Rock - Kerry star Darran O'Sullivan hit 1-3 before he was black-carded late on.

The game finished 1-14 to 1-11 for Glenbeigh-Glencar.



In Allianz Hurling league action, Down got the better of Roscommon the game finishing 1-12 to 1-16 in Ballycran; Derry lost out 2-19 to 0-16 to Meath at Pairc Tailteann, while Antrim drew with Carlow at Netwatch Cullen Park 0-21 to 2-15,

Armagh senior hurlers also drew with London at the Athletic Grounds, the final score 1-13 apiece.

Yesterday, St Mary's University, Belfast shocked holders University College, Dublin to lift the Sigerson Cup for the first time since 1989.



In a thrilling final at Bekan in Mayo, the Belfast students recovered from a poor start, conceding two goals inside the first five minutes, to lead 0-9 to 2-1 at the break hitting nine unanswered points.



In the second-half, UCD hit eight wides as St Mary's held on to win by a point, 0-13 to 2-6.
