1961: Croke Park hosted the Sigerson Cup final as University College, Dublin recorded a 3-7 to 2-7 victory over University College, Galway.

1997: Newcastle's hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League ended with a 1-0 defeat to Barcelona.

2004: Barry Owens and Martin McGrath become Fermanagh’s second and third Allstars after the county’s run to the All-Ireland semi-final.

2004: England finally arrived in Zimbabwe for their controversial one-day international tour. The team entered the country two days late in protest at a number of journalists being refused visas and consequently the schedule was reduced from five to four matches.

2006: Ballinderry saw off a late Errigal Ciaran fightback to secure a 1-15 to 3-7 Ulster Club semi-final replay win.

2007: Derby chairman Adam Pearson confirmed that the club had parted company with manager Billy Davies.
