RANGERS completed their summer transfer business by signing former Arsenal centre-back Philippe Senderos.

The Swiss defender signed a one-year contract yesterday following a successful trial period, with the 31-year-old becoming Mark Warburton's eleventh summer signing and joins after a proposed deal for Joleon Lescott fell through two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Jozo Simunovic's proposed move from Celtic to Torino was expected to go through late last night with the Croatian defender is in Italy awaiting an agreement from both clubs. Simunovic said he was simply eager to get some game time after recovering from a knee injury that left him out of new manager Brendan Rodgers’ plans.

However, things appeared to hit a snag yesterday afternoon with Torino, who completed the season-long loan signing of Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart, appearing to attempt to renegotiate their deal, which was set to bring about £3.75million to Celtic.

Simunovic, who has recently resumed training, told Sky Sports News HQ: "I'm done with the medical checks. Everything was fine and Torino and I have agreed personal terms. Everything is now with the clubs and they need to find an agreement.

"I am ready to go back if the clubs cannot find an agreement. I just want to play football."

Following their acquisition of Costa Rica right-back Christian Gamboa from West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday, there was little sign of anyone moving to Celtic on deadline day with Rodgers frustrated in his interest in Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

Former Celtic player Charlie Mulgrew, who left the club at the end of last season, joined Blackburn on a three-year contract while Andy Murdoch exited Ibrox after failing to make an appearance under Rangers boss Mark Warburton. The 21-year-old, who scored twice in 22 first-team matches for Rangers, spent last season on loan with Cowdenbeath and Queen of the South.

Former Cliftonville striker Joe Gormley has made the move north of the border in a loan deal with SPL side St Johnstone until January.

Gormley, who hit 85 goals in 133 games for the Reds, moved to Peterborough United last summer but suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in September 2015 and has been given the chance to resurrect his professional career with the Scottish side managed by former Limavady, Ballymena and Lisburn Distillery boss Tommy Wright. Gormley will have the chance come face to face with former Solitude strike partner Liam Boyce on October 1 when the Saints clash with Boyce’s Ross County.

Watford winger Ikechi Anya was given permission to leave Scotland's training camp to push through a move to Derby while Steven Naismith proposed loan move to David Moyes’ Sunderland fell through a couple of hours before the transfer window shut.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle signed former Hearts defender Brad McKay on a two-year contract days after he was released by St Johnstone, while the Jambos offloaded out-of-favour striker Juanma to Spanish Segunda Division side Murcia on a season-long loan.

Mathias Pogba, brother of Manchester United’s world-record summer signing Paul, left Partick Thistle for Sparta Rotterdam after hitting three goals in 36 games for the Jags.
