On This Day - June 25 1969: Derry GAA legend and RTE analyst Joe Brolly is born

1932: India made their Test cricket debut against England at Lord's. The hosts, captained by Douglas Jardine, won by 158 runs.

1948: Joe Louis beat 'Jersey' Joe Walcott at New York's Yankee Stadium to make the 25th and final defence of his world heavyweight 

1983: India won the third Cricket World Cup, beating reigning champions West Indies at Lord's.

2000- Clare beat Tipperary 0-15 to 0-10 in the semi-final of the Munster Senior Football Championship, at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.

2000- Armagh beat Fermanagh 0-13 to 0-12 in the semi-final of the Ulster Senior Football Championship at St. Tiernach’s Park, Clones.

2000- Kildare drew with Offaly 1-08 to 0-11 in the semi-final of the Leinster Senior Football Championship at Croke Park, Dublin.

2002: Michael Ballack netted the only goal as Germany beat co-hosts South Korea in Seoul to reach the World Cup final, but he also picked up a yellow card which ruled him out of the showpiece match against Brazil.2004: Holders France were knocked out of Euro 2004, losing 1-0 to eventual winners Greece in the quarter-final.

2007: Arsenal striker Thierry Henry passed his medical to bring his £16million move to Barcelona a step closer.

2008: A last-minute Philipp Lahm goal sent Germany through to the Euro 2008 final with a 3-2 win over Turkey in the semi-finals.

2012: The Crown Office instructed Strathclyde Police to conduct a criminal investigation into the acquisition of Rangers Football Club in May 2011 and the subsequent financial management of the club.

2012: Joey Barton was stripped of the QPR captaincy and fined six weeks' wages following his misconduct during the final Barclays Premier League match of the 2011-12 season against Manchester City.

2013: Real Madrid confirmed that former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti would take over for the 2013-14 season, which ended with Champions League glory. Paris St Germain also confirmed Ancelotti's replacement in the French capital, bringing in Laurent Blanc on a two-year deal.

Johnny Herbert (motor racing) - Three-time grand prix winner who drove in 161 Formula One races for Benetton, Tyrrell, Lotus, Ligier, Sauber, Stewart and Jaguar, born 1964.

Joe Brolly (gaelic games) – former Derry corner forward and Gaelic football analyst was part of the first Derry team to win the Senior All-Ireland Football Championship, born 1969.

Erki Nool (athletics) - Estonian decathlete who won gold at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, now an MP in his home country, born 1970.

Neil Lennon (soccer) - Hibernian manager, born 1971.

Jason Gallian (cricket) - Former Lancashire, Nottinghamshire and England batsman, born 1971.

Jamie Redknapp (soccer) - Former Liverpool, Tottenham and England midfielder, now a television pundit, born 1973.

Albert Costa (tennis) - Spanish winner of the 2002 French Open, born 1975.

Iestyn Harris (rugby league) - Former Wales international in both rugby codes, born 1976.

Ciarán McKeever (gaelic games) – The Armagh footballer won the National Football League in 2005. He also played for Ireland in the International Rules Series against Australia, in 2008, 2010, 2011 as vice captain and again in 2013. 

Scott Brown (soccer) - Celtic and Scotland midfielder, born 1985.

Jack Cork (soccer) - Swansea midfielder, born 1989.

Victor Wanyama (soccer) - Tottenham midfielder, born 1991.
