Ulster Intermediate Ladies' Football Championship semi-final:

Tyrone 2-14 Fermanagh 2-9

TWO injury-time Fermanagh goals did little but add a gloss to the final score in last Saturday’s Ulster Intermediate Championship semi-final, which saw Tyrone book their place in July’s decider.

The Red Hands, who have come down from senior this year, were always in control against a struggling Fermanagh side, who do have a second bite at the cherry against Down in the other semi-final on June 18.

Last Saturday’s win was Tyrone’s first this season, having lost all their seven Division One games, culminating in relegation from the top-tier, while Fermanagh, who were relegated from Division Three, are still waiting for their first victory of the year.

Victory did come at a cost for Tyrone, however. They lost captain Neamh Woods to a shoulder injury and full-forward Cara McCrossan with a knee injury, but manager Gerry Moane will be hopeful, with time on their side, that they will both recover for the final.

Tyrone had one foot in the final by half-time, leading 1-9 to 0-5 against the defending Ulster champions, Meabh Mallon with her sides’ goal. And it could have been much worse for the Erne county only for goalkeeper Roisin Gleeson, who was named in the Division Three Team of the League last week, producing some fine saves.

With 10 minutes to go, Tyrone led 2-14 to 0-7, Grainne Rafferty with the Red Hands’ second goal, when they lost Catherine McNabb to the sin bin. Down to 14, Fermanagh rallied late, hitting 2-2 without reply, the goals, one from the penalty spot, coming in injury-time to put some respectability to the final scoreline.
