1997: Jimmy Hill stepped down as Fulham chairman after 10 years and was replaced by vice-chairman Bill Muddyman.
2001: England midfielder Owen Hargreaves was part of the Bayern Munich side which beat Valencia on penalties to win the Champions League final in Milan.
2002: Roy Keane left the Republic of Ireland's pre-World Cup training camp on the Pacific island of Saipan after a row with national team manager Mick McCarthy, who branded him "a disruptive influence".
2004: Stevie McDonnell and Ronan Clarke grab goals as Armagh hammer Monaghan 2-19 to 0-10 in the Ulster Senior Football Championship opener. Armagh would go on to ift the Ulster crown but crashed out of the All-Ireland Championship against Fermanagh.
2007: AC Milan won the Champions League, beating Liverpool 2-1 in the final in Athens.
2011: Ryan Giggs was named as the married footballer at the centre of a controversial privacy case after he was identified in the House of Commons by MP John Hemming.
2012: QPR midfielder Joey Barton was banned for 12 matches and fined £75,000 following his dismissal against Manchester City on the final day of the Premier League season.
2015: James DeGale won the IBF super-middleweight title against Andre Dirrell, becoming Great Britain's first boxing Olympic champion to win a world title.
