1990: Alex Ferguson won his first trophy as Manchester United boss as his team beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in an FA Cup final replay at Wembley. Lee Martin scored the only goal after the first meeting between the sides ended in a 3-3 draw.

1998: Ron Atkinson, having kept Sheffield Wednesday in the Premiership, left the club for the second time after they announced their intention to appoint a full-time manager.

2000: Arsenal were beaten by Galatasaray in a penalty shoot-out in the UEFA Cup final in Copenhagen.

2006: Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Barcelona in the Champions League final in Paris.

2008: Portsmouth won the FA Cup, beating Cardiff 1-0 in the final with a first-half goal from Kanu.

2011: The 2018 Ryder Cup was awarded to France.

2013: James Anderson took his 300th Test wicket, against New Zealand at Lord's, becoming the fourth English bowler to reach that landmark.

2014: Arsenal won their first trophy in nine years by beating Hull 3-2 at Wembley to claim the FA Cup.
