GLENAVON beat favourites Linfield 2-0 to win the Irish Cup for the second time in three years at Windsor Park.

Kevin Braniff and Andy Hall scored the goals for Gary Hamilton’s side in a deserved success.

Linfield started brightly with Andrew Waterworth going close and Jonathan Tuffey saving from Stephen Lowry.

Gary Hamilton's men got back into the game and Joel Cooper saw a cross/shot drift just wide of the post.

On 17 minutes Eoin Bradley found the net but his goal was chalked off for a foul on the keeper.

With just seconds to go before the break Braniff gave Glenavon the lead, latching on to a superb pass from Bradley before finishing in style.

Hall doubled Glenavon’s lead early in the second half, running onto a loose ball and slotting past Linfield keeper Gareth Deane

Linfield responded, going close with a free kick which Tuffey tipped over a strong drive from Aaron Burns.

With barely 10 minutes remaining, Braniff had a fantastic chance to grab a third but his shot flew wide of the post.
