On This Day - May 6 1969: Northern Ireland soccer star Jim Magilton is born

1875: America's best-known horse race, the Kentucky Derby, was first run. Aristides, ridden by Oliver Lewis, won the inaugural race.

1954: Roger Bannister became the first man to run a mile in less than four minutes. His exact time in the race at Oxford's Iffley Road was three minutes and 59.4 seconds.

1961: Tottenham became the first team in the 20th century to win the league and FA Cup double when they beat Leicester 2-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

1988: Worcestershire's Graeme Hick set a 20th-century record by scoring 405 runs in a single innings against Somerset at Taunton. The mark was eclipsed by West Indian batsman Brian Lara, who hit 501 for Warwickshire against Durham in 1994.

2007: Manchester United won the Premier League title after Chelsea's 1-1 draw at Arsenal.

2009: Chelsea lost their Champions League semi-final against Barcelona on away goals after a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

2013: Ronnie O'Sullivan successfully defended his World Championship title, beating Barry Hawkins 18-12 in the final to land his fifth trophy at the Crucible event.

2015: Lionel Messi scored twice and set up the third for Neymar as Barcelona beat Bayern Munich 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final, marking an unhappy return to the Nou Camp for former Barca boss Pep Guardiola.
