Slaughtneil and Lavey paired again in Derry championship

M&L Contracts Derry SFC draw

SLAUGHTNEIL will meet Lavey in the opening round of the M&L Contracts Derry SFC for the second year running, except this one is for real.

Lavey won the battle last year, but Slaughtneil recovered with the aid of the back door to win the war, retaining the John McLaughlin Cup. However, with the Derry championship reverting to a straight knockout format, there will be no safety net when they meet this summer.

Old rivals Ballinderry and Bellaghy will meet, while there are sure to be plenty of eyes on the meeting of last year’s beaten finalists Coleraine and 2013 finalists Ballinascreen. Glenullin, who made the unusual move of entering the SFC despite having been relegated to intermediate football last year, will play the Loup.

Dungiven will face the winners of the preliminary round tie between Glen and Swatragh, with Banagher v Kilrea, Magherafelt v Greenlough and Newbridge v Claudy completing the draw.
