MANCHESTER UNITED set out to please their frustrated fans against Chelsea and Morgan Schneiderlin does not believe they could have done any more.
United at least brought an end to a four-match losing run, but are now eight without a win after the 0-0 draw at Old Trafford. As well as results, supporters have vented their anger at United's style of play, particularly a lack of attacking threat.
Midfielder Schneiderlin said: "We talked before the game and said it was a must for us to be aggressive, to be on the front foot and to attack, just for our fans because they deserve to see some attractive football.
"Sometimes we can't do that, for whatever reason, but it was a must for us to be on the front foot. We created some magnificent chances and, for everyone in the crowd, I think it was a beautiful game. For us, it was a good game as well because Chelsea are a very good team. But it will be hard to sleep because we didn't win."
The clash between two struggling giants did not lack chances and both keepers pulled off terrific saves, while Juan Mata and Anthony Martial hit the woodwork for United. Schneiderlin was left mystified how his side did not secure the win, but is confident better times lie ahead.
The Frenchman said: "What more could we have done? We just needed to score one goal and then be able to play around it.
"We know that, if we can improve on the first part of the season, by scoring more goals and getting back to the strong defensive performances we had before the last few games, then anything can happen. This isn't finished. There are five months left, the second part of the season. We must be confident because we are Manchester United, we are one of the biggest teams in the world."
Ander Herrera thought he had broken the deadlock in the 56th minute from close range, only for Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois to pull off an excellent save.
The Spaniard could not believe he did not score, saying: "I think I put my foot correctly. I was in the right position. The cross of Anthony, I think, was very good.
"I don't know what happened, to be honest. I was going to celebrate it and saw the ball was not in. We showed we were the better team, but it was not enough. We cannot be happy but we can be proud of what we did. We have to be realistic, we have to win games, but this is the way we have to play, I think."
