BELFAST boxer Michael Conlan has been named RTE Sports Person of the Year for 2015, while Northern Ireland football manager Michael O'Neill was crowned Manager of the Year.

The award caps off a stunning year for the Rio Bound boxer. The 24-year-old became the first Irish male to win a senior World Amateur Championship title with victory in the bantamweight final where he beat Murodjon Akhmadaliev of Uzbekistan on a unanimous points decision in Doha.

Last night's triumph at the RTE Sport Awards adds to the BBC Northern Ireland Sports Personality Year of the Award Conlan won on Thursday.

Michael O'Neill picked up the Sports Manager of the Year trophy in honour of his historic achievement of guiding the Northern Ireland soccer team to next year's Euros in France.
