JAMES MILNER feels there is even more to come from Liverpool after their stunning victory at Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp's rampant Reds knocked City off the top of the Barclays Premier League with a comprehensive 4-1 win at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. Most of the damage was done in a whirlwind opening period as Liverpool raced into a 3-0 lead after forcing an Eliaquim Mangala own goal and with further strikes from Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.
It was some statement by the Merseysiders as momentum continues to build under new boss Klopp, while City were left with plenty of questions to answer.
Midfielder Milner, who left City for Anfield in the summer, said: "I thought we were outstanding. We pressed them all over the field, created a few chances and I thought we could have had a few more.
"In the second-half, we didn't want to keep it tight - we wanted to keep doing what we were doing and get on the front foot. We wanted to be in their faces. We didn't do it as effectively as in the first-half and they changed their formation a bit, but I still thought we put in a pretty good second-half.
"There are always areas we can improve. If you look at the teams we have played away from home and the results we have got, it has been pretty solid, but obviously the home form we can improve. We know that is where we need to do better and we are more than capable of that. If we can get the home form right, we won't be too far away."
Liverpool were beaten at Anfield by Crystal Palace on their last outing but, on this occasion, they ravaged the title favourites with a high-energy display from the outset. The opener came after seven minutes as Coutinho robbed Bacary Sagna and Mangala turned Firmino's cross into his own net. More poor defending allowed Liverpool's Brazilian duo to quickly increase the lead and Firmino was close to adding two more.
City's top striker Sergio Aguero marked his return after seven games out injured with a fine goal to reduce the arrears, but Martin Skrtel lashed in a shot nine minutes from time. Milner, 29, produced one of his best performances for Liverpool on a day of mixed emotions back at the club where he won four trophies.
He said: "It was strange coming back to place where I was for five years and had a lot of good times, but as soon as you step on the field it is business time.
"It is important we keep this going now and it is a great start to a period where we have a lot of games. Hopefully we can keep keep the confidence going."
The result left City third in the table, below new leaders Leicester and Manchester United. Manager Manuel Pellegrini spoke of his anger after the game, describing the performance as a "disaster", but must now focus on Wednesday's Champions League trip to Juventus.
He said: "We need to turn the page as soon as we can. We all must think what will happen in the future, we have an important game on Wednesday,"
